Freezing Cold

I never thought that I would have to live in -5 F (-20 C). The city I move almost 5 years ago wasn’t a cold city during the winter; at least that’s what they told me.
My first winter I knew it would be challenging, I was raise in a Caribbean country, the temperature is around 70 F to 80 F all year long (20 C – 30 C). So when I move to Cincinnati I knew I would have to go thru 32 F (0C) or even lower, and some snow and ice.
Again that first winter really show me a winter, It was December 2009 – January 2010, there were several snow storms and temperatures below 32 F (0 C) I have to learn how to drive thru the snow and face the cold. But the 3 winters after that were not bad at all, specially last one. Last one we have temperatures around 40 F (4 C) or higher all winter long. And every now and then the temperature drop a little. I was hoping that winters here keep the average. After all, I was getting used to it, don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the cold and I think the winter time is too long, but I knew it was part of the process and I was getting used to it.
And then…. This winter happen, it start earlier than usual and with really freezing temperatures. And then we had a polar vortex and another one and really really cold weather, and snow, and ice…. Today we start the day with -5 F (-20 C) and with the wind chill feels like -20 F (-28 C).  And the highest temperature is 9 F to 12 F (-11 C).
They said this is rare, these very low temperatures register didn’t had happen since 1977 when even the Ohio River freeze. So I’m glad we are not there yet and I hope we don’t break that record either. Also, imagine how cold we are that even Alaska has better temperatures than us at 40 F (4 C). Yes, you read correctly, ALASKA.

I hope this weather goes away soon, otherwise I think you will find me froze in my desk ;)
